NSW: Carr Hard work needed to overcome federal govt comments
New South Wales Premier BOB CARR says Australians will now have to work harder to undo
the damage done by the federal government's statements on the stolen generation.
But he condemned threats by Aboriginal community leaders to protest at the Sydney Olympics
Games in response to the issue.
Aboriginal activist CHARLES PERKINS has warned there'll be mass demonstrations at the
Olympics, in response to doubts placed on the size of the stolen generation of Aboriginal
children.
MR CARR has branded the Howard government inept and insensitive for sparking what he
described as a bruising debate, which revolved around figures and the definition of the
word generation.
MR CARR says Australians who feel strongly about the issue should join politicians
and indigenous and non-indigenous community leaders in a show unity, for a symbolic walk
over the Sydney Harbour Bridge on May 28.
