He encouraged people to get as far south as Mackay if they could, with that city expected

WA: Woman in WA chair-sniffing scandal seeks law changes
The woman who was caught up in a political chair-sniffing scandal in Western Australia
has helped draft proposed new laws to protect parliamentary staff from sexual harassment.
KARRY SMITH was a Liberal Party staffer in 2005 when then deputy party leader TROY

After the incident made headlines in 2008 .. Mr BUSWELL was forced to stand down as
opposition leader .. only months after being elected.
Ms SMITH has revealed she's been working with Labor MP MARTIN WHITELY on a private
member's bill to amend WA's Equal Opportunity Act to extend sexual harassment coverage

Fed: Gov't wants colluded price investigation before Christmas
CANBERRA, Dec 3 AAP - The federal government wants the competition watchdog to investigate
before Christmas whether anti-competitive behaviour is pushing up petrol prices.
Consumer Affairs Minister Craig Emerson has written to the Australian Competition and
Consumer Commission asking it to investigate claims that price collusion is taking place
in the petrol price cycle.
The allegations came to light after the commission told Dr Emerson it had uncovered
evidence of "price signalling behaviour".
That evidence is a major reason behind its decision to reject a bid by Caltex to take
over more than 300 Mobil service stations.
"I'm obviously very concerned about that," Dr Emerson told Sky News on Thursday, adding
he wanted the commission to provide him with an interim report before Christmas.
Commission chairman Graeme Samuel says price rises which peak on Thursdays, in what
has become known as the petrol price cycle, amount to "coordinated behaviour".
"The leaders tend to be the major market refiners - Caltex, Mobil and BP," he told ABC Radio.
"All of a sudden there's a price hike, there's a jump of the order of 10, 15, sometimes
even more cents per litre."
Fair trading specialist Frank Zumbo, from the University of New South Wales, has criticised
the government's slow reaction.
"It's a bit rich to raise this issue now in circumstances where the government has
been well aware of this issue for past two years," Professor Zumbo said.

Boat (CANBERRA)
Another boatload of asylum seekers has been intercepted off Australia's northwest coast
.. the third in ten days .. and the eighth this year.
The boat .. carrying 54 passengers and two crew .. was intercepted by the navy yesterday
before it reached Australian waters.
Home Affairs Minister BOB DEBUS says the people from the boat have voluntarily transferred
to HMAS Albany .. and will be taken to Christmas Island .. where they'll undergo health
.. security and other checks.
The interception came as another boatload of asylum seekers were taken ashore on Christmas
Island .. and less than two weeks after an asylum seekers' boat exploded .. killing five
Afghans and injuring dozens.
Shadow foreign minister JULIE BISHOP says the influx has been caused by changes to
our border protection laws .. allowing asylum seekers to expect they'll be released into
the community before their refugee applications are processed.
Anzac National (SYDNEY)
As commemorations come to a close on the 94th Anzac Day .. Australians have shown that
as the ranks of veterans dwindle .. the numbers of those honouring them swells.
In cities and towns around Australia .. at Gallipoli and on the western front .. tens
of thousands have honoured the 1.8 million Australians who've gone off to war .. and the
102 thousand who never came back.
At all ceremonies Australians have been urged to keep faith with the Anzac spirit.
Defence Minister JOEL FITZGIBBON ventured to remote parts of Afghanistan on Anzac Day
to spend time with Australian troops.
And Treasurer WAYNE SWAN told a commemoration at the Washington National Cathedral

Crisis Swan (SYDNEY)
Treasurer WAYNE SWAN says Australia's being dragged into recession by the downturn
in the global economy .. but we're better positioned than other developed nations.
Speaking from Washington .. Mr SWAN's said the mood was sombre at the meeting he's
attended of ministers from the world's 20 leading economies.
But he says there wouldn't be a finance minister in that room who wouldn't swap places with him.
Mr SWAN says the RUDD government's working to cushion the Australian economy from the
effects of the global recession .. and to maximise the opportunities when global growth
returns.
The treasurer's also attending the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund
and the World Bank.
IMF Protest (WASHINGTON)
More than 100 protesters .. upset with the way world leaders have handled the economic

Some fear it may be too late to contain the outbreak.
The disease has already reached Texas and California .. although there've been no deaths.
However .. Mexico City says schools are closed and all public events suspended until
further notice .. including more than 500 concerts .. sporting events and other gatherings.
The virus is a mix of human .. pig and bird strains .. deeply worrying to experts around
the world.
The WHO has convened in Geneva to consider whether to declare an international public
health emergency .. which could close borders and restrict trade.
There's no vaccine against swine flu .. and it's not clear how effective human flu vaccines are.

.. to launch the New South Wales Bikers Council.
Sydney QC GEOFFREY NICHOLSON will act as their legal adviser .. and says they'll comment
on new bikie laws and offer some objectivity.
The move follows months of escalating bikie violence .. including a brawl in the domestic
terminal at Sydney airport last month which left one man dead.
SAfrica Vote Zuma (PRETORIA)
JACOB ZUMA has claimed a resounding victory for his African National Congress in general

NSW: Iemma would ignore royal commission as he did ICAC: Oppn
By Will Fisher and Eoin Blackwell
SYDNEY, April 6 AAP - The Greens have called for a royal commission to inquire into
development applications by donors to the Labor Party in NSW, but the opposition says
the government would probably ignore its conclusions.
Research by the Greens shows developers have donated $4 million to the NSW Labor Party
over the past six months, Greens MP Sylvia Hale said today.
Donations were made to the state government while developers were waiting for approval
for major development applications, Ms Hale said.
"A royal commission could determine whether undertakings were given to the developers
when Labor party officials solicited their donations and whether the donations influenced
the minister's decisions," she told reporters.
"The pattern of donations to the Labor party coinciding with favourable decisions for
the developers who made those donations cannot be ignored or explained away."
Planning Minister Frank Sartor said he was moving to reform the way decisions were made.
"We're shifting a lot of decisions out of my office and into an independent planning
commission," he told reporters.
"We believe in the responsible use of public money. There has not been one shred of
evidence that my decisions are in any way tainted."
Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell said Premier Morris Iemma had failed to follow the
recommendations of a corruption inquiry.
Mr Iemma and Mr Sartor should have taken up the proposal by the Independent Commission
against Corruption (ICAC) that all development applications from political donors be referred
to an independent approval process, Mr O'Farrell said.
"This isn't a conflict of interest when it comes to donations and development decisions,
it's a potential corruption risk," he told reporters.
"It's a scandal that last year's ICAC report, which would have ensured that development
applications from political donors were handled at arm's length from the minister, has
been ignored by this Labor government.
The ICAC report in September, entitled "Corruption risks in NSW development approval
processes", recommended that development applications by political donors be subject to
a commission of inquiry, an expert report, or the possibility of a third-party appeal.
"If ICAC can't convince this state government to clean up the development application
process a royal commission is unlikely to do so," Mr O'Farrell said.
Mr Sartor's planning proposals announced last week would still allow him to decide
which development applications would be decided independently, he said.
"Frank Sartor and Morris Iemma's planning changes still allow the planning minister
to decide upon multi-million dollar developments proposed by donors to the Labor Party.
That's unacceptable."
The research by the Greens shows two companies, Stockland and Meriton, donated $100,000
and $150,000 to the Labor party while development applications were being considered by
Mr Sartor.
Mr Sartor said the government was facing a perception problem aggravated by the Greens.
Last month Premier Morris Iemma announced a proposal to ban all political donations
and move to a system of full public funding at the state government level.
He said the move was aimed at restoring the public's damaged perception of the political
process in NSW, following questions about ministers' relationships with developers.

Fed: Australians find creative ways to destroy mobiles
By Darren Osborne, Technology Writer
SYDNEY, Dec 4 AAP - Australians can be quite clumsy when it comes to caring for their
mobile phone.
Driving off with the handset left on the car roof is the most common excuse for a damaged
mobile, according to a survey of Telstra customer service staff.
Number two on the excuse list is damage by water, which includes dropping it in the
toilet and taking calls when in the rain.
Others at the top of the list are sitting on the phone, dropping it on the footpath
and throwing it to a friend or on a hard surface.
Customers are finding many news ways to damage their property, Telstra spokesman Peter
Taylor says.
"Research shows that mobile phones, along with keys and wallets, are one of the items
that Australians typically won't leave home without, so it's little wonder that customers
are finding new ways to accidentally damage their handsets in a variety of settings."
Mr Taylor says summer always sees a jump in the number of people pushed into pools
or walking into the surf while their phone is in their pocket.
Some have reported damaging their phone by accidentally running over it with a ride-on
mower, leaving it on a window sill or car dash in direct sunlight and using it while in
the shower with the speakerphone activated.
"We've even heard from a customer who retrieved their Next G handset after losing it
when back burning a sugar cane field. Incredibly the handset still worked, even though
it was a little scorched and melted in places," Mr Taylor said.
Even the old "my dog ate it" excuse is getting a run.
"The popularity of leather cases for mobile phones has seen a surprisingly high number
of reports of phones being gnawed by the family pooch," Mr Taylor said.
While manufacturing defects are covered by warranty, they do not cover misuse or accidents
caused by a customer, leaving many with no phone and an active contract.
Mr Taylor said that with the increasing sophistication of mobile devices, it is becoming
more important to take care of your mobile phone and keep it in good working order.
"Some easy to remember tips about mobile phone care include always storing your handset
in the same place, using belt clips or pouches to secure the device and letting the call
go through to MessageBank when caught in a tricky position," he said.

Qld: Police investigate abduction of teenage girl
BRISBANE, April 20 AAP - Police are investigating the abduction of a teenage girl who
says she managed to escape from the boot of a car west of Brisbane today.
The 13-year-old girl told police she had been waiting at a bus stop in Eagle Street,
Collingwood Park, near Ipswich, at 8.20am (AEST) when a car stopped nearby.
Police said the driver, who was alone in the car, offered the girl a lift to school
before grabbing her by the arm and forcing her into the boot of the sedan.
The girl told police she was then driven to nearby bushland before the man let her
out of the boot and she managed to escape.
A female motorist picked up the distressed girl in Henty Drive.
The alleged abductor is described as young, was wearing dark clothing and a baseball

Fed: Iraqi Shi'ite terror leader vows to protect people: report
SYDNEY, Dec 20 AAP - Iraq's most notorious Shi'ite death squad leader, Abu Deraa, has
vowed to protect his people against the US-led coalition forces and opposing Sunni terrorists.
After negotiations through intermediaries, the elusive warlord Abu Deraa agreed to
his first face-to-face interview with a foreign journalist from Australia's Fairfax newspapers.
"I'll be the first and the last to defend my people and my creed from troublemakers,"
he told Fairfax.
Abu Deraa has become the most notorious leader of the Shi'ite death squads whose tit-for-tat
campaign of sectarian cleansing forces thousands of Shi'ite and Sunni families to flee
their communities, Fairfax reports.
"You hear how the Shia are dying," Abu Deraa said in a private home in Sadr City,
a Shi'ite stronghold in Baghdad.
"But I never act unless I'm sure and have proof from witnesses who swear that my targets
have killed my Shia brothers - then I find a solution.
"Shi'ite families are weak when their sons have been killed.
"They cannot defend themselves, so they ask for my help."
The death squads have been kidnapping, torturing and murdering their way through whole
communities.
But Abu Deraa remains defiant on the Koran's prohibition on killing.
"I'm the first to say it is haram (forbidden) to spill good Iraqi blood, but when it
comes to people who plant car-bombs to kill our women and children, I'm ready for them,"
he said.

NSW: New laws to crack down on NSW gang members
Anyone who recruits people to join a criminal gang will face seven years prison under
laws to be introduced by the NSW government.
Premier MORRIS IEMMA says the new laws to crack down on gangs are unashamedly the toughest
anti-gang powers Australia's ever seen.
They'll also create a new offence where anyone who contributes in any way to a criminal
gang activity will be jailed for five years.
Gang members who commit crimes against police or those who damage property during public
disorders can be jailed for up to 16 years.
The laws are partly in response to the Cronulla riot and the subsequent revenge attacks
in December last year.
Mr IEMMA says there's nowhere for gang members to hide and anyone who takes part in
gang crime faces up to five years jail for any criminal activity .. even if they're the

The human side of selling: does your personality come through in your presentations? If not your customers are probably not listening. (Bob Popyk On Selling).
I was flying from Pittsburgh to Grand Rapids recently. The flight attendant began with the usual safety instructions. And as usual, not a whole lot of passengers were paying attention. My nose was buried in the second section of USA Today. Other people were looking out the window, shutting off cellular phones, or closing their eyes. Suddenly I heard her say, "For those of you who haven't been in a car since 1957, here's how the seat belt works." I looked up, and so did some other passengers. It was a real person talking without a script. Then she said, "Listen to the next part about the oxygen mask, because there will be a quiz." Now everybody was listening. It was a human being with actual expression and emotion, not a robotic, automated speech we were hearing. This wasn't Southwest Airlines where they kid around as a general rule. This was US Airways, where flight attendants are more worried about losing their job than winning happy passengers. The human touch can do wonders.
How often do we talk about the same products with the same features and benefits, and use the same spiel day in and day out? It gets to be so repetitive that you feel like you can open your mouth and the words will come out automatically. Do you use the phrases "Can I help you?" "Thanks for coming in," "Have a nice day," or "Here's my card," with no inflection or interest? Do you answer the phone by saying your company's name and let the words all run together in an unclear and monotone voice? Yesterday I called a car repair service center and heard "This is Monroe. We fix mufflers and service air conditioners. These damn phones are ringing off the hook. Can I help ya?" I hung up. They are not touching any of my cars.
I had a better experience a few days later when I went into a boat dealership and was met with a big smile and the words, "Hi, you've come to the right place if you want to put a lot of fun in your life. Do you have a boat now?" I like it when a salesperson makes me feel like I'm their most important customer at the moment. I don't like to feel like I'm an intrusion on someone's day.
How about you? Does your personality come through when you talk to a customer? People will speak with and respect those they consider a peer. The more natural you sound, the easier it will be to put a sale together. We tune out, and are often annoyed by, unemotional, canned sales pitches. Pitches like the ones you hear when you pick up the phone (after saying hello several times) and a monotone voice greets you with "Hello, can I speak to (insert bad mispronunciation of your name)?" Then they begin reading a script.
Of course you want to be prepared when you describe your products and services. The worst time to be thinking about what you will say is when it is about to leave your mouth. For example, think about the bad acting you've seen in plays or movies. It sounded stilted, and unnatural--like it was being read. When you talk to a customer, you want to come across to them like they are talking to a friend, not a machine. Think about this: Are you putting together ads and direct mail pieces that are bland, boring, and trigger no response because they're the same-old, same-old? I had a vacancy in one of my rental units last month. One of my friends owns a couple of units there as well, and he was telling me his classified ads don't get a lot of response. His ads lists the generic: two bedroom, one-and-a-half baths, with washer and dryer hookup, garage, basement, and deck. Security required. Now, believe it or not, the people in the classified department of our local paper told him to do it this way. Use abbreviations, limited letters, save money. Don't spend cash on needless words. I was worried that I wouldn't get a lot of calls, so I decided to put it in terms people could relate to. My ad read "Very lovely 2 br. apt with 1.5 baths, on quiet street with park-like setting. Don't miss this opportunity." I listed my home phone and cellular phone prefaced by the words "I am very reachable." The clerk taking the ad was shocked. She said, "You don't need all those words. You are paying four times too much." I ran the ad. I received 84 calls.
There is a mailing company in southern California that will supply you with any list you want, and then mail your direct-mail piece. They attach a yellow post-it note with the handwritten words "Get this. It's Great!" It is signed "J." They have been doing this for years. You would think people would have figured it out by now. But it's the human touch that works. I guess it doesn't get old. Maybe you've thrown away a dozen of these by now, but I bet you always check first to see if it came from one of your friends. The added creativity gets you ten times the response. The personal touch makes it happen.
If customers want to deal with a cold, impersonal source, they'll go to the Internet or a catalog. You are at an advantage because you can use personality, inflection, kindness, understanding, and warmth when you meet a customer. You can make a customer a friend, get them to smile, and have them refer you to their friends. Take advantage of it.
It doesn't matter if you're selling flutes, pianos, guitars, or drums. It could be pro audio, lighting, or keyboards. Let your human touch show through. Tweak your personality. Find out what kind of music your customer likes to play or listen to. Get them to laugh a little. Don't treat them like it's an effort to take their money. The music business is a fun business. The more, instruments you sell, the more fun it can be.

Yahoo eyes Mideast's 'exciting' markets.
CAIRO: Yahoo's Chief Executive Officer Carol Bartz sees huge opportunity in the growth of the web in the Middle East.
"When we look around the world, the Middle East and North Africa is one of the most exciting markets for us at Yahoo, with a combination of rapid user growth and a very attractive advertising market with incredible potential," Bartz told media at a gathering in Dubai.
"Arabic is also one of the fastest growing languages on the internet, yet only 1 percent of online content is in Arabic today," Bartz added, according to a statement from the company.
"Part of Yahoo's investment in MENA is to facilitate the growth of the Arabic language online."
Yahoo acquired Maktoob in November 2009 has since opened offices across Dubai, Amman, Cairo, Riyadh and Casablanca, totaling around 300 employees who work in editorial, engineering, sales, marketing and customer care.
"Because our teams are local, we understand what people need and in turn develop our products accordingly to serve up the right content," said Bartz.
Since acquiring Maktoob, the combined reach of the company has grown from 30 million unique users to 50 million.
"Yahoo Maktoob has also establishhed content deals with the likes of Al Jazeera, BBC, Reuters and the Saudi Publishing & Research Company, and continues to look for more Arabic language content partners. The company continues to recruit writers, bloggers and editors to make its original content in Arabic broader and richer," the statement read.
"We are making our content mobile, since mobile penetration for this region is growing at an incredible rate," said Bartz. "This month we will introduce our Yahoo Maktoob homepage for mobile in both Arabic and English. Also look for mobile versions of our media properties, like news and sports."
As broadband penetration continues to rise in the Middle East, Bartz said Yahoo plans to invest more in Video On Demand service to deliver content from popular Arabic TV series, movies and music videos.
One of their new products for Ramadan will see Yahoo's Middle East editorial team selecting lifestyle and religious content from its news, women, video and omg properties, and popular forums.
She also emphasized the importance of online advertising. "Yahoo Maktoob is the number one in the Middle East and North Africa for display advertising, with 40 percent market share," according to the statement.
Online ad spend for the region is currently only 2 percent of total advertising spend for the entire region. France's, for example, is around 15 percent and in the UK's is 25 percent.
Bartz noted that the region is host to the fastest growing advertising market in the world, with average year-on-year growth in digital spending around 25-30 percent.
"We envision the online ad market in MENA to reach at least 5-7 percent of the total ad market by 2015," said Bartz.

SECRETARY CLINTON: WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY.
WASHINGTON -- The following information was released by the U.S. Department of State:
Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
May 3, 2011
On this May 3 as we observe World Press Freedom Day, we take time to honor those who promote and protect the freedom of expression, and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives while giving voice to those who may not have the opportunity to express themselves freely -- including the journalists recently killed while bravely covering the crisis in Libya.
This year the United States is proud to have partnered with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and civil society organizations to host the global World Press Freedom Day conference, which focused on the theme "21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers." With two billion people now online, the internet has become the public space of the 21st Century. We have all witnessed the power that this surge in connectivity can have in shaping society and holding governments accountable. New media empowers individuals around the world to share information and express opinions in ways unimaginable just ten years ago.
Even as we celebrate innovations that make information easier to share, we are reminded that in many places around the world, journalists are still targeted for harassment and abuse, and are sometimes killed. Today, we remember that journalism is a calling of everyday heroes. We must continue to stand up for those who speak out in perilous circumstances as they pursue, record, and report the truth.

RDATE:12012010
Shanghai, China -- Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that it has set a new data rate record, averaging up to 564 Kb/s, in a recent downlink dual carrier (DLDC) test for Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution (EDGE). This record speed, which is two times faster than that of existing EDGE networks, enables operators to cost-effectively increase network data capacity and bring 3G experiences to 2G users over GSM networks, such as high-speed mobile data services including live video broadcast and video on demand (VOD).
Advancing EDGE technology significantly improves user experience through faster data rates, better quality of service (QoS) and lower network latency. Huawei' s innovative EDGE+ solution enables GSM operators to quickly, smoothly and cost-effectively migrate their existing EDGE network to EDGE+ through simple software upgrades and supports smooth future evolution to 3G and beyond.
He Gang, president of GSM/UMTS product line for Huawei commented: 'This milestone demonstrates Huawei' s continued commitment towards driving GSM evolution, the world' s most widely deployed technical standard with the largest mobile subscriber base. Huawei' s advanced EDGE+ technology enhances flexibility for operators building their 3G networks and provides a seamless high-speed data service experience.'
Using the existing GSM frequency bands, Huawei' s EDGE+ can provide seamless high-speed mobile data service coverage and is one of the first-stage 3G networks that makes it possible for mobile phones to receive real-time streaming media from the Internet with lower latency. EDGE+ can bridge high-speed mobile broadband services on HSPA+/LTE networks and GSM data services to ensure the continuity and availability of mobile data services. EDGE+ best protects the 2G OPEX of operators and increases the average revenue per user (ARPU) of 2G networks.

Multiservice ATM concentrator provides superior network performance and reduced network costs; DL7100 multiservice ATM concentrator offers Soft Port -- any service on any port -- for rapidly evolving multiservice ATM networks.
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1997--Digital Link today announced its new DL7100 Multiservice ATM Concentrator, a high-capacity system offering integrated multiservice access, interworking, adaptation and concentration.
It multiplexes and switches voice, data, video, low-speed cell and Frame Relay for ATM transmission. The DL7100 supports up to 36 DS1s (864 DS0s) and 4 DS3s and combines cell switching with service adaptation in a high-performance, scaleable and cost-effective package.
"The DL7100 is the ideal service access point for rapidly evolving ATM networks being deployed by carriers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) because it combines our Soft Port feature (any service on any port,) high-port density, full redundancy and carrier-class physical design," said Steve Tabaska, Digital Link's chief technology officer and vice president of engineering.
"Its sophisticated bandwidth management and Soft Port feature enables service providers to respond rapidly to customer requests for service," said Tabaska.
Economical integration of multiple services and applications
The DL7100 Multiservice ATM Concentrator extends new service access to ATM core networks through low-speed traffic aggregation of ATM and other traffic protocols to broadband ATM trunks.
"The DL7100 is more cost-effective on a per-port basis than high-capacity ATM core switches that are less efficiently filled," said Jack Musgrove, vice president of marketing at Digital Link. "This enables service providers to initiate service for much lower entry costs, an important factor in today's highly competitive environment," he said.
The DL7100 supports ATM UNI, Frame Relay, ATM FUNI, ATM DXI and Circuit Emulation Services (CES). Software-defined service identity provisioning on individual ports makes it easy to deploy access to ATM networks. The Soft Port feature provides maximum flexibilty to service providers by enabling multiple services with only one module type. "This reduces the investment in unique hardware, eases services and spares provisioning and lowers overall life cycle costs," said Musgrove.
Sophisticated, redundant ATM-based architecture
The DL7100 Multiservice ATM Concentrator is based on a modular, software-defined and standards-based architecture that can easily evolve in conjunction with future services and requirements.
The DL7100 adapts subscriber traffic to ATM cells for internal concentration and switching to minimize internal delays and provide shaping, policing and queuing, as well as scaling from 64 Kbps to broadband trunk speeds. These capabilities are important to network managers because they help gain control of and manage bandwidth through the network.
The DL7100 provides high service availability for mission-critical applications. It has a fully redundant data and power bus, as well as redundant management modules, network interface modules and subscriber interface modules.
Redundant management processor modules (MPM), each with on-board dedicated processors, manage the cell bus, collect statistics and process alarms. In addition, the management processor modules support a browser-based craft interface, management of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), database and software, including file transfer protocol (FTP) downloads and upgrades.
Dual port network interface modules (NIM) offer DS3 ATM UNI/NNI and 1:1 interface redundancy. The subscriber interface module (SIM) offers port-by-port software-defined service identity and 1:N redundancy. The DL7100 SIM module includes four T1 ports for Frame Relay, ATM UNI, CES, FUNI, and DXI subscriber interfaces.
The redundant power bus includes provisions for connections to A&B sources for standard central office battery supplies. All modules are hot-swappable and automatically configured at power up based on the configuration data contained in non-volatile storage on the MPM.
Service Level Assurance
The DL7100 provides extensive traffic management capabilities which include the following: shaping, queuing, policing, and partial packet discard for overall quality of service assurance. The DL7100 performs policing, shaping, and packet discard per virtual circuit or virtual path (VC/VP). Policing is performed on all ingress ports in accordance with ATM Forum defined algorithms. Traffic shaping is done on DS3 egress ports utilizing the Generic Cell Rate Adaption (GCRA) to a granularity of one cell per second for the most accurate shaping.
Substantial System Management Capabilities
The DL7100 provides system management capabilities such as integrated SNMP agent, statistics collection, alarm monitoring, event logging, access security and performance reporting. The DL7100 features extensive connectivity via Ethernet, multiple serial ports, Telnet and the HTML user interface. The user interface is browser-based and compatible with industry standard browsers such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Explorer.
The DL7100 can be managed via standard SNMP management platforms such as HP Openview and Digital Link's recently announced WANview Unix Network Management System.
Standards Compliance
The DL7100 is designed for stringent carrier operating environments and complies with national and industry standards including Bellcore NEBs for physical size, power dissipation, vibration and earthquake resistance. It also meets UL standards for flammability and operator safety, as well as FCC emissions compliance and appropriate ATM, Frame Relay Forum, ITU, ANSI and Bellcore standards.
Price and Availability
List prices for the DL7100 begin at $21,000 with several typical configurations priced under $50,000. General availability is July 1997.

About BUYINS.NET
WWW.BUYINS.NET is a service designed to help bonafide shareholders of publicly traded US companies fight naked short selling. Naked short selling is the illegal act of short selling a stock when no affirmative determination has been made to locate shares of the stock to hypothecate in connection with the short sale. Buyins.net has built a proprietary database that uses Threshold list feeds from NASDAQ, AMEX and NYSE to generate detailed and useful information to combat the naked short selling problem. For the first time, actual trade by trade data is available to the public that shows the attempted size, actual size, price and average value of short sales in stocks that have been shorted and naked shorted. This information is valuable in determining the precise point at which short sellers go out-of-the-money and start losing on their short and naked short trades.
BUYINS.NET has built a massive database that collects, analyzes and publishes a proprietary SqueezeTrigger for each stock that has been shorted, www.buyins.net/squeezetrigger.pdf. The SqueezeTrigger database of nearly 1,900,000,000 short sale transactions goes back to January 1, 2005, and calculates the exact price at which the Total Short Interest is short in each stock. This data was never before available prior to January 1, 2005, because the Self Regulatory Organizations (primary exchanges) guarded it aggressively. After the SEC passed Regulation SHO, exchanges were forced to allow data processors like Buyins.net to access the data.
The SqueezeTrigger database collects individual short trade data on over 7,000 NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stocks and general short trade data on nearly 8,000 OTCBB and PINKSHEET stocks. Each month the database grows by approximately 50,000,000 short sale transactions and provides investors with the knowledge necessary to time when to buy and sell stocks with outstanding short positions. By tracking the size and price of each month's short transactions, BUYINS.NET provides institutions, traders, analysts, journalists and individual investors the exact price point where short sellers start losing money.
