Fed: Vodafone could face penalties if found guilty of inciting

SYDNEY, Aug 5 AAP - Vodafone could face significant penalties if it was found to haveincited a streaker to run onto the field during Saturday's Bledisloe Cup match, policesaid today.

Flemington Local Area Commander Allan Wilson said police were investigating reportsVodafone managing director Grahame Maher had agreed to pay the fines of two streakerswho pulled a publicity stunt at the rugby match between Australia and New Zealand.

Superintendent Wilson stopped short of saying action would definitely be taken againstVodafone but said the offence, if proved, could attract penalties.

"There are appropriate laws, appropriate penalties as well, in relation to anyone whoincites or encourages any criminal offences so that law is in place and we wish to havethat as a deterrent in future," said Supt Wilson.
